Iron chef competition
For this Iron Chef project we had an idea to have this project teach us different ways of the science behind food. We each got our groups and got a basket of mystery ingredients that were totally of our comfort zone. We had to brain storm ideas with out group of how we can make a dish that will show creativity. We all had the whole chem hour to cook our dishes and practice them before our festival. I feel like I really learned that food may look like it just goes into our stomach but has a whole meaning behind it that will impress you, from maillard reaction to chemical changes to browning of certain foods. I feel like I can now cook meat if I really brainstorm and take my time to make a good dish from scratch. During festival, I will admit their was chaos but at the end of the day it was a relief to have the judges say that our dish was creative. We were given Sirloin steak, coca-cola,corn,avocado and cheese as our ingredients. We made a sirloin steak marinated in Coca-Cola with a side of onions and tomatoes and guacamole and a cheesy corn casserole.
Modernist cuisine poster
This is our Science Modernist Cuisine Poster where we explain the science behind our groups cooking. Our poster is basically about the science behind our cooking and all the different components that we had with this dish. In this dish we talk about the different components of the maillard reaction happening in our dish. We also talk about the different physical changes in our cheese and meats. This poster really shows the different components of our dish and all the science behind. We really made sure that all of these different scientific techniques show through out my poster. I feel like my group did a really nice job with this poster and I am very proud of the outcome.
cooking video
Link to Coking Video
This video shows the steps of our group making our dish for the first time. We really made sure that we get everything in this video and that it shows everything that we did. I feel like the video looked amazing and I feel very accomplished with what me and my group had done. In this video we show that the process of meat can be really interesting when it is being marinated with something. I was really proud of this video because it looks so well executed and well edited.

final reflection
I learned how to actually cook meat and make meat really tender with a marinade. I really liked how I learned how to work well as a group and really help out my peers not stress about things. I love how we really worked together in this group to make a dish outstanding and perfect. I would honestly cook the meat longer and buy pepper and season everything. I would really make sure that I will watch a video and really make sure that the meat does not have pieces of hanging skin and that it is hard to chew. Lastly, I loved this project because I got to feel the pressure of an Iron chef cook and it felt so amazing to do your own thing.
The Energy Debate project
In chemistry I had learned a lot of different things such as hydro power and wind turbines ex. I learned that wind turbines now a days cost a lot to make and keep our energy going and can highly affect wildlife and the neighborhood around us. One of the pros for using nuclear energy is that we will have a sustainable amount to last us in the barriers that they are in. One of the cons are that they can highly affect our environment and wildlife and can cause oil spills and really can cause negative effects on our lands. The debate format was off and I did not like it because it was very hard to go with the flow and hard to understand. I debated against many different groups but I feel like it should have been a class debate instead to make it easier and not chaotic. The 5 debate questions I had to answer were, Does nuclear energy solve the problem of global warming, what should be done about the current infrastructure of fossil usage in our society, Is their a location that is fair and safe to store in nuclear waste, Do the benefits of nuclear outweigh the benefits of renewable energy, Are the benefits of nuclear energy higher than renewable's if cost is included in comparison, What are the limitations of nuclear fission, Are our energy needs going to continue to be the same, If an accident occurs do the possible negative outcomes outweigh the benefits of nuclear energy, Can nuclear reactors be protected against human error natural disasters and acts of terrorism.
Claim Evidence and Reasoning are what we did in order to have our information ready for our debates. Claim is to find a hook for our specific questions that we have about the topics and evidence we had to find evidence for our claim and questions that we had for this topic. Reasoning was, we had to really go deep into our evidence and claims and had to really reason and go further into our claims. These CREWS really helped us prepare for our debates and really have us work as a group. I feel like these CREWS really helped me as an individual because it was a perfect format for the way that I was going to speak or if I got stuck.
reflection
Some of the things that I learned to do in this project were that I knew how to incorporate my voice and get my self to finally speak up and speak for my self even though I can get shy. I am very proud of my self for being person A because I had to talk the most and really speak up for my group. Something very challenging was that the whole day was very challenging for me because I had to speak up for my self and really push my self to not be shy at all. I would totally not take the whole day to have different debates and just do a class debate because it was a waist of time and it was very chaotic. I feel like people did not have time to prepare or practice and that's why the debates were alright.
